Update: September 4, 2012

The special labor day show and event was an immense success for Haven rabbits, our clients, the community, and adopters. We had 8 adoptions and had a great turn out of people there to learn, and enjoy the day. Visitors enjoyed the rabbits, the presentations, displays, grooming & retail area as well as the delicious food and free gifts for their bunnies.

The festival section was held in the back yard of For Other Living Things in Sunnyvale under two large canopies. Nail trims and Adoptions were held inside. We met all of our goals for this special event: To promote adoption awareness regarding rabbits, to educate the public regarding rabbit care, to help increase adoptions and to expand our adoption and foster base. We also wanted to let our clients know about For Other Living Things. They have great products and service.

Haven staff did a stellar job of putting the festival and the adoption show together quickly. All volunteers worked in high gear & just did what was needed - With only 2 hours to set up from scratch, we were ready to go at 11 AM. The show floor and event areas looked very nice. Blessings to all our transport people who helped move equipment and supplies to For Other living things- and to all rabbit transport people and their fosters who brought rabbits to the show. Thank you to our haven shoppers, bakers and donors too. Special thanks to Karen and Derick for the big flooring pieces & to Cheyenne for the yummy holiday cupcakes. Major kudos to all the set up crew, delivery and support volunteers that helped prepare, set up and run the event and show! Ed, Sarah, Petra, Kyomi, Raymond, Ray, Cindy, Linda, Richard, Jessica, Diana, Meredith & Jennifer. What amazing teamwork.

In our festival section a great display for rabbit housing was set up beautifully by Ray Milkey showing both condo and x pens arrangements. Our clients were able to see first hand how to set up their new or existing rabbit in a modern, clean fashion. The set up looked welcoming & inviting. Our Home Health Check and rabbit care class, by Cindy Marshall was held offering new adopters and old alike the chance to learn the latest methods to help care for their rabbits.

There was a wonderful array of food to enjoy and plenty of retail items for sale too- Most items handcrafted by Kyomi. Plus, we held a small raffle. There were some wonderful raffle prizes. Thank you to our raffle prize contributors, Busy Bunny, For Other living Things, Private Haven donors and Carolyn Mosher. Gift bags were also offered to rabbits who came to visit. There was something for everyone and everybunny.

The adoption show area was packed with people all day. The store was also full of new people who came by to say hello and many who came to attend our presentation outside at the festival - Several new foster came in to inquire. Two new fosters were set up Saturday!

Rabbit Haven Adoptions were put back on tract as we had 8 adoptions for the week. Bridgette, two Dutch babies, Kirsten, Pierre, Luckybun, Estee and Almay. All counselors and show support staff were busy educating and helping, adopting, helping clients complete applications, assisting in shopping and adopting. We all worked to offer support until 5PM!

Our Nail trim area was crowded with people with multitudes of bunnies all day long. Jennifer and Diana worked from 11AM to almost 5PM non stop. To augment the nail trim information area Kyomi brought in her beautiful display board showing the different products to use in grooming.

Special thanks to Anita, Dennis, Kelly and Susan of FOLT who gave us the extra space and also helped us keep pace with customer needs at FOLT. We had many new clients come in and the store was also busy. New customers had many questions.

Love to our foster families and all Rabbit transporters. With their support we are able to assist many rabbits and to find them homes. Haven is 100% foster based.

New program SJ area: The past two FOLT shows we have shown one rabbit from San Jose shelter under our new SJ shelter outreach program. The first show, Slate was adopted. This show, Bonnie was able to be accepted into the Haven program and we added a new foster family to support her care. This new program is working well. Thank you Sarah for handling the shelter rabbit transport.

Major thanks to Kyomi for her excellent Shelter advocate and administrative work at SJ shelter. The Rabbit photos and info she sends us makes it possible to help this shelter. Sarah has also added her talents and goes into the shelter as Haven advocate on Tuesdays. Sarah has also been of great help in urgent transports recently. The shelter staff value their work. I do too. Haven shelter Advocates help save rabbit lives, help to make the rabbit's stay at the shelter happier and keep me informed so I can seek rescue as needed. We are recruiting one additional team. Call me for details. 831 600-7479
