The Rabbit Haven is now accepting new volunteer Counselor/Advocate/Educator trainees for The Haven's education program. Our volunteers work at Haven adoption shows, on the phone, at special events and at shelters. Educators work at schools and in a variety of other locations such at Pet Co adoption centers, the Haven education center at shelters. Our focus is rabbits' well being and to promote the image of rabbits as loving, indoor animal companions. We provide quality education services to the public, shelters, and adopters. We operate a help desk and referral network. The time commitment for each volunteer will vary for each position. We can discuss this when you call. The volunteer training will be held in Santa Cruz in April. Date to be announced.

Counselors, Educators and Advocates for the Rabbit Haven learn how to educate, train and guide new rabbit families to help them learn all about rabbit care, handling and the rabbits social and physical needs. Haven Staff are loving, supportive people who enjoy working with the public in an open, friendly manner. We are non judgmental and family friendly. Our counselors are 18 or over, polite, professional, respectful and courteous. Haven representatives will be offered ongoing in service training and extra training materials needed to carry out their position(s).

Advocates working at shelters will also receive a separate orientation with the director at the shelter of your choice. School educators will be given a curriculum that we use in Schools. Full descriptions of each position will be available at the volunteer orientation training session.

We need counselors, educators and advocates for San Jose, Sunnyvale, and San Benito & Santa Cruz areas.

Full training is provided. (both in class and on the job). Educational materials are provided. Cost of the training is $50.00 (covers the expense of materials) which includes your Haven tee shirt, name button and training manual. Once you have been trained, your opportunities open! You may educate in Schools, at Kids Camps, at Special events, and of course at shows and shelters.
