Annabelle – February 2004

You touched a special part of us in the short 3 weeks that we were blessed with you. Your bunny friend Mr. Mc Gregor had only been shown violence by other rabbits, and refused all other bunnies we tried to introduce him to. He was so lonely and sad. Yet the second you were placed next to him, you reached over and starting kissing him. When you hopped off to explore, he reached out after you, and you came back. You were inseparable after that.

There were small signs that you might not have a long time with us, but we never suspected that 3 weeks after adopting you that you would be sitting on our lap while we watched your last breathes, Mr. McGregor by your side. Hidden from us was cancer eating you up inside. Your loss was shared by all the volunteers who had worked so hard to save you. Our only consolation was that you clearly were an angel sent to help heal Mr. McGregor. Our gift to you was your first real home where you were loved dearly and treated with the love and care all living things deserve.

Paul, Heather and Mr. McGregor only spent 3 weeks in your physical presence, but we think of you so often now. There is a small place in our hearts that is all taken up by you. All the bunnies we save are in your name, Annabelle.
