| The family endured a 10 hour trip from Auburn until they were safe and sound with The Haven. Two intrepid Haven transporters, Martha and Bob, travelled from Marin over to Alameda, then out to Auburn and then back to Los Gatos. What a day! Here is Auntie Heather's story about the day:
I slept on the floor on my futon next to the new arrivals - I made a fire in the fireplace and kept the soft mini lights on to create a relaxing new home for the family- they are so dear. They loved my flannel nightgown and the tiny ones made themselves at home in the folds of it.
Ester (meaning star) and her children are living primarily in a 47" Marchiaro pen with soft fleece blankets and snuggly throws. They have made themselves comfy surrounding a snuggle safe which radiates heat for them. They seem so cozy and they must know they are loved.
Today, every time I come up to their enclosure, they run over to see what's up. They love alfalfa hay and food !!!! Ester will come over for a quick nudge and pets then she goes right back to her little ones.
Thank you so much Bob and Martha for your LONG drive yesterday to pick up the family and your delivery to me at the Haven. Thank you Corinne, the kind foster person in Auburn who took them in on an emergency basis - you helped save their lives!
What an incredible journey for Ester and her babies. After begin dumped at a shelter this thin bunny mother gave birth to her 6 kits! Then magically Corinne come in to pick her up and she is whisked away to another space....then, just yesterday back in a car for a long road journey to us! She must be dizzy!!!!! After an entire day of car transport, Bob, his friend Martha and Sweet Ester and her family arrived in Los Gatos.
Wellness check - On arrival, we noticed Ester the bunny mom and sweet dwarf Black Dutch, was sick - one baby had a cough too! Very scary stuff. I took her directly to the vet but our vet had already gone for the day, so we are waiting until this afternoon.
We will find out today what is going on with Ester and the one little baby with the cough. I will just have to keep an eye on the babies. They are so hungry!!!! Mom has been eating non stop. Her little belly is full yet she will not stop. She is very thin, frankly underweight and bony, poor little girl. What joyful bunnies and the mother, Ester, is so sweet.
Thanks again to Karen of Harvest Home and to Bob and Martha who discovered this family and transported. Great appreciation to the life saving efforts from all involved, Corinne, fosterer, and Kim of New Hope and of course Bob and Martha who drove such a long distance to save seven little bunnies.
Martha fell in love with two already so there will only be four avail for adoption.
