Cassie after her amputation surgery

Cassie went in for her surgery and the doctors discovered that indeed her leg could not be saved. Both Dr. Evans and Dr. Stern worked together to perform a mid femur amputation. Cassie is improving every day and is the sweetest rabbit. She is already able to navigate without that broken leg she once had to drag around. Cassie's foster mom said she is doing very well and that her incision site looks clean and healthy. Cassie is eating and drinking like any normal rabbit. Tango, a sweet boy who lives at her foster site understands. He came in two years ago with a badly injured leg. His leg was able to be saved. Cassie was not so lucky. She is however getting love and medical support she needs from her foster parents. Send get well wishes and a donation if you can for her continued care. In a few months she will be as good as new and then looking for her very own forever family. PetFinder Foundation has offered a $250 match grant to help pay for Cassie's surgical needs. So every dollar you donate today is doubled!! If you wish to donate, you can use our PayPal site or donate by check. We will keep you posted on Cassie's progress.

Cassie came into a shelter supposedly a stray. She could barely move. She could not use her back leg which flopped to the side (not showing in this photo) She was stunned and still absolutely sweet. She did her best to sit upright yet her leg buckled underneath little body. The shelter veterinarian discovered there was a problem and they called The Rabbit Haven for rescue. Happily FOSCCA, a local non profit animal welfare group came to Cassie's aid by covering her first exam and X-rays. Thank you to FOSCCA! Cassie was taken to Dr. Hilary Stern DVM right away. The minute Cassie reached Dr. Stern and she felt Cassie's leg, she knew it was seriously broken. The X-rays show a shattered leg bone that is impossible to repair.

Sadly, Cassie will require an amputation of the ruined leg to save her life. The Rabbit Haven arranged for this and placed Cassie in medical foster care where she is now receiving pain medication and the support she needs. Dr. Stern of The Animal Hospital of Soquel kindly offered to do her surgery for $500.00 and Pet Finder offered an immediate 200 match to help pay for Cassie's surgical needs.

Please help us to help Cassie right now. Please go to our PayPal site or donate by check and double her money by contributing to her account. Please send good energy and well wishes to our precious little bunny, Cassie. We are a bit strapped financially as we have had several special needs bunnies all come at once. Thank you for your help. What a sweetheart she is. She is an amazing survivor and has so much love to give. Let's make her life beautiful from now on. First step, let's take away her pain and get her well.
