Abandoned Easter bunnies now on death row at a local shelter need your help!
May 12,2014

When we were notified that one of our shelters had six rabbits on the need rescue list with end dates, it was a bit overwhelming. They had very short times frames to get them out as well. Advocates and the Haven rescue team worked non stop to make arrangements for rescue, fostering, spay/neuter and adoption. All five rabbits were rescued from the San Jose shelter and two have already been adopted. Ivy went on to House Rabbit Society. SaveABunny took in one extra so The Haven could make room to take in one more.

All of these at risk rabbits were taken out in time to save their lives by our amazing shelter advocate team and on to spay/neuter appointments in Milpitas. We received an unexpected surprise donation from a Haven member to cover all the spay/neuter expenses for these five. Such a wonderful outcome for these lucky five bunnies. It has been quite a busy week as you can imagine. Since this group, 6 former breeder rabbits came in and 3 are on the needs rescue list with End dates of 5-13. The Haven rescued one immediately as she was so desperately ill and we did not think she would survive one more day without acute care. Her name is Tansy. She will be seeing Dr. Stern tomorrow 5-12.

The terrible truth about rabbits given at Easter: They are thrown away just like the Easter baskets! Rabbit Haven phones started ringing the day after Easter with calls from people wanting to dump their Easter bunnies. Sadly many are tossed out is parks or along roadways like the rabbits shown here. Others are just dumped outside to fend for themselves or posted on Craigslist. The rabbits in this appeal need out or they will be euthanized by the shelter. Their end dates are May 8 and May 9. We have hardly any time. We are scrambling to save them. Please help.

The Rabbit Haven just took in 11 babies from Hollister this morning. These babies are post Easter babies that did not "sell", they were being sold for food or "whatever". The Haven has also taken in from Yolo and Santa Cruz shelters already, and now this group!!! We are over full. These beautiful bunnies have such limited time. Haven can transport in a 100 mile radius from Los Gatos, Ca. Call Heather ASAP Please 831-600-7479 and/or Email director@therabbithaven.org Please help as soon as possible! Haven will spay/nueter and transport. Foster, Adopt, rescue or donate to help them get spayed. It is $55.00 each to get that done. We are hoping for the best about getting them out, so made spay/nueter appointments. for all. Look at these sweet bunnies. PLEASE HELP- right away to save their lives.

A word from the bunnies:

We are all rabbits that were dumped after Easter at the shelter. This is a horrible time for us. The shelter is jammed packed and they do not have room for us here. This place has hundreds of all kinds of animals. It seems no one wants us. We are afraid and sad. Three of us were thrown out by a street. A nice lady gathered us up to keep us from being hit by cars. We tried to hide under cars and there was no water or food. Cars rushed by on the busy street. We were confused, hungry and terrified. Naomi and Ivy were just found too. Now we are all really in trouble. We did not do anything wrong at all, yet we have only days to get out or we will be killed. That's so scary. We do not want to die. Our lives have only just begun. We want to be safe and loved. Can you help us? Our friends at The Rabbit Haven said they will help get us to vets and spay/nueter AND they will help get us to you! Free transport!!! This time we get to ride in a car. So will you please Call or email now? We are ready to go!!!!
