Howie - Abandoned Bunny with Head Tilt
Update: August 25, 2015

Dr. Hawklyn treated Howie today and he is so much improved. He has a long road ahead but he is doing very well. His head tilt and infections are much improved. His physical therapy is helping his neck. He remains on medications and physical therapy treatments and will see the doctor again in two weeks. We are very pleased with his progress. As you can see from his photo, his head is much straighter, and he is much happier. His balance is restored and it looks like his eye will heal too!

We have now met our challenge match for Howie. Howie has his match! Thank you to everyone who donated and to Adopt A Pet who sponsored the challenge. We now have $600 for Howie’s care. Thank you for your support and love.

This is Howie Bundell, a small gold lion head mix bunny. He is very sick with either a severe inner ear infection or EC causing his head to tilt to the right. He had been abandoned in a backyard “to die” and was rescued by a neighbor who observed his situation. The owners handed him over to the neighbor and she took him to Aptos-Creekside Veterinary Hospital to be euthanized. Happily the staff at the hospital recognized that the condition could be treated and called the Rabbit Haven to seek rescue. We agreed to rescue him and Laureen picked up Howie the same day.

Safe inside the Haven, Howie is receiving medication to care for his ear, potential EC infection and his eye. He is being assist fed two times a day while he recovers and has just begun to nibble on pellets. Howie will need months of medical care and support then we think he can return to normal bunny activity. We are hopeful for a full recovery from this devastating illness.

We expect Howie's ongoing care to cost over $800. We will continue medications, assist feeding and clinic visits as required to get him healthy again. Our friends at the AdoptAPet Veterinary Care Fund have pledged a $300 challenge match for Howie's medical expenses. For every donation we get for Howie, AdoptAPet will double it, up to $300. This means $600 for Howie. If you want to help with the challenge match, you can donate today using The Haven's PayPal account online or donate by check. The Haven is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit, so your donation is tax deductible to the extent that the law allows.
