Lil' Ben's Story
July 26, 2012

Hi, I am Lil' Ben. I came into the Santa Cruz shelter with lots of bites and very dirty fur. I was injured and weak from lack of food, water and basic care. I had lots of large abscesses on me too and an elevated temperature. I was hurt and felt pretty bad. The shelter advocate, Leslie, helped me get to see the doctor by calling everyone and taking me there herself. I like her. Also FOSCCA paid for my exam and tests, and then the doctor and the hospital made some sort of very special discount so I could get my needed surgery. It was going to be a big surgery. I was nervous. I gave Auntie kisses and she said it would be ok. Leslie also thought that I would be just fine too. She thought that I just needed one chance at having good food and to be in a place where I could get healthy. Having food is a good start. I love hay and greens.

With all this going on, the shelter asked my friends at The Rabbit Haven if they would help rescue me and they said yes! Then I went into temporary foster care until my surgery. I had a long procedure to remove all the abscesses and now I have so many stitches, but I feel better than I did before. I am at The Rabbit Haven now. Every day I am feeling better, and I get medications every day and very good care. I made friends with another bunny here, Stevie. Stevie has legs that go out to the side. He is nice.

I feel pretty good all things considered. I am trying to get well as fast as I can. You can see from my pictures that I was in pretty bad shape. Those pictures sort of say it all. Today was my first day out to exercise my leg a bit. I can stand up very well and I move pretty slowly but that's ok. I am in no hurry. Send me get well wishes please.

Please help The Haven pay for my vet bills if you can by contributing to his fund today. Any amount is appreciated. You can donate to my fund using The Rabbit Haven's PayPal account or by check. Just make sure to indicate that the donation is for me, Lil' Ben. We will keep you updated on Lil' Ben's progress.
